Park City Resort Must Pay $17.5M to Stay Open

Park City Mountain Resort will have to pay $17.5 million to stay open this winter during an ongoing court battle between two ski titans.

The ruling is much closer to Park City's $6.6 million request than the $124 million ask from its opponent, Vail Resorts, Inc., raising hopes that the ski season will go on when the snow flies.

Park City has said it might not be able to open this year if the bond was too high. A closure could have a devastating effect on the local economy.

Judge Ryan Harris required Park City to post the bond within a week. It postpones an eviction he ordered in May after ruling the resort missed a deadline to renew its decades-old bargain lease rate.
