Western Colorado high schools performed well this weekend in football playoffs, with most of the schools winning their respective games and advancing to the next playoff level.

In the first round of the Class 4A playoffs, Montrose defeated Coronado 42 to 25. Montrose will next play Broomfield in the 4A quarterfinals.

Five high schools played in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, and three of those teams are advancing to the 3A quarterfinals. Palisade narrowly defeated Lutheran 28-24, and will host Pueblo East next weekend. Delta defeated Conifer 24-21 while Rifle had a big win over Northridge 61-13. Delta is scheduled next to play Discovery Canyon, and Rifle is set play Roosevelt.

Glenwood Springs and Eagle Valley both lost their respective 3A games over the weekend, with Glenwood Springs losing to Evergreen 24-7 and Eagle Valley receiving their 42-7 loss to Roosevelt.

In Class 2A quarterfinals, Kent Denver defeated Montezuma-Cortez 56-18 and Eaton beat Gunnison 43-21.

Paonia is advancing to the Class 1A semifinals with a 32-0 win over Platte Canyon. Paonia will play Resurrection Christian in the semifinals.

And Norwood received a 36-14 loss to Simla in the Class 8-Man quarterfinals.
