Two different performances of "The Nutcracker" will highlight the Grand Junction holiday season.

The Grand Junction Symphony presents its rendition of the classic story while Moscow Ballet returns to Grand Junction for it's annual appearance.

The Grand Junction Symphony presents "The Nutcracker"  December 9 and 10, 2 p.m. at Grand Junction High School. The performance, of course, features the GJSO plus  dancers from the Colorado Mesa University Dance Department, local dance companies and Anaïs Chalendard & Sabi Varga from the Boston Ballet in the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her cavalier.

Adult ticket prices are $20, $30, and $40.

The Avalon Theatre will host Moscow Ballet's "Great Russian Nutcracker"  Monday, December 11. It's the 25th Anniversary Tour of North America and they are going to make sure they make it to Grand Junction this year. You might recall, the scheduled 2016 performance in Grand Junction did not happen because of treacherous weather in Wyoming.

This year, the tour comes to Grand Junction from the south, routed from Albuquerque. and hopefully will be able to avoid a repeat of last year's cancellation.

In addition to the "Nutracker's" great music, Moscow Ballet's production includes a flapping-winged owl, a growing 50-foot tall tree, and the Dove of Peace with a 20-foot wingspan. Ticket prices start at $28.

Nutcracker fans in Grand Junction can choose from two outstanding performances this holiday season, so whichever one you choose, enjoy!
