Mesa County Sheriff's Officers responded to reports of a shooting in Clifton this afternoon (April 27).

[Updated May 11] The Sheriff's Office is continuing their investigation of the shooting on April 27 at 488 32 Road in Clifton.

Key information remains limited because the investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff's Department doesn't want to compromise the investigation.

The Sheriff's Department has revealed the 27-year-old man who was shot was the intended target of the shooting and there likely isn't any danger to the public, even though the suspect remains at large.

Investigators are aware there were several witnesses to the shooting and they are diligently gathering information from those witnesses.

Unfortunately, the investigation is being hampered by the reluctance of some witnesses to talk with law enforcement due to current warrants for their arrest on unrelated cases.

Original Story

Other law enforcement agencies joined the sheriff deputies in an attempt to locate the shooter and investigate the incident.

One person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, but additional information is pending the completion of the investigation.
