Mesa County Fire Restrictions Being Lifted
Stage 1 fire restrictions in Mesa County are being lifted effective at midnight Thursday, August 3.
Recent rain has brought much-needed relief to the parched desert of Western Colorado, prompting officials to lift the restrictions which have been in place since June. The national weather service is forecasting more rain and cooler temperatures which will also help reduce the fire danger.
However, summer wildfires in Mesa County remain a possibility and the public is being asked to exercise caution with activities that could spark a fire. As always, be prudent when engaged in burning processes and in the use of campfires.
A couple of things to keep in mind is that the use of fireworks is still prohibited on federal lands, and wood fires are never allowed on the Colorado National Monument.
The lifting of fire restrictions is good news, but let's continue to be cautious.
