We are officially down to the last minute for Christmas shoppers, and this can be the most stressful time of the holiday season. Here's some tips on how to survive your last shopping trip before Christmas.

Stress levels tend to be high among shoppers at this point in the holiday season, and there are a lot of reasons for that, but the main reason for it is because of wrong expectations. Having the right expectations before you go shopping is the biggest key to minimizing stress on this all-important shopping trip.

First of all, just know that traffic is going to be crazy. It's going to take you longer to get where you are going, and it will definitely take longer to get out.

Secondly, you have to know that prime parking spaces are going to be at a premium. The chances of you finding one fairly close to the front door are pretty small, so don't expect to find one. Just plan on finding A spot, and be happy about it. If you happen to find one closer, that's a bonus.

Next, you should expect that the stores will be packed with last-minute shoppers. That means cramped aisles, and long lines and waits at check out. Don't make the mistake of thinking that most people are done with their shopping and the stores will be empty. That probably won't be the case.

In addition to managing your expectations, you can minimize your stress level by not being in a hurry. Being in a rush will only lead to frustration because it's not going to happen fast. Even if you only have one thing to buy at this point, don't expect it to happen fast. Whether you are buying a little or a lot, all of the last minute factors will be in place....heavy traffic, challenging parking, long check out lines, rude and annoying people.

My advice is to go out.....take your time, and don't focus so much on the ultimate goal, but rather try to simply enjoy the experience of the holidays. Go in with a smile, and be determined to keep smiling no matter what irritant may occur. If you feel yourself beginning to get agitated, just start singing a happy Christmas carol, like 'Deck the halls with boughs of holly, fa la la la la - la la la la.'
