In spite of the natural release of water from the sag pond atop the West Salt Creek landslide near Collbran, residents are asked to remain on level two alert.

Even though the sag pond is five feet lower than it's recent 20 foot high, there is still plenty of snow melt expected to flow into the pond over the next few weeks.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, the most recent reports show the area is stabilizing, but there is still a good chance that may change as the pond collects more water from spring run-off.

People are cautioned to stay out of the West Salt Creek slide area and residents are asked to prepare for the possibility of evacuation if the situation changes.

Crews have cleared mud and debris from West Salt Creek Road resulting from the most recent release of water from the sag pond, but the road is open only to local traffic.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has emergency evacuation routes for West Salt Creek residents if there is another sudden release of water or slide in the area.
