Grand Junction Police Officers were dispatched to Community Hospital Tuesday afternoon (September 11) following reports of a suicidal man at the hospital.

According to a Grand Junction Police Department report, when officers arrived at the hospital, a man outside was actively self-harming with a cutting instrument. Police did not specify what that instrument was.

The hospital was locked down while officers talked with the man in an attempt to get him to drop the sharp instrument. The negotiation failed but police were able to use non-lethal means to disarm and detain the man.

The man was turned over to medical professionals for treatment and evaluation of his mental condition. Possible criminal charges are pending. Whether or not charges will be filed depends on the results of testing and treatment.
