Former Western Colorado High School Standout Gets NFL Tryouts

A former western Colorado high school athlete is getting a tryout with two NFL teams.

Ryan Moeller, who was the second leading rusher in Colorado in 2012 when he played for the Rifle Bears, has been invited to rookie mini-camp tryouts with the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants.

Moeller has spent the last four season with the CU Buffaloes as a defensive back and on special teams.

In 2012, Moeller was named Colorado's 3A Player of the Year and nationally was named second-team All- American. During his high school career at Rifle, Moeller rushed for more than 7,000 yard and 84 touchdowns.

There is a ton of competition for a spot on NFL rosters, which right now can hold up to 90 players. After the draft, all NFL teams signed a bevy of college free agents hoping to find a diamond in the rough, or an outstanding talent that didn't make any team's draft board. Rookie mini-camp tryouts are another way for teams to get exposed to a lot of football talent, and hopefully turn out a rare find that can make it to the final 53-man roster.

Moeller is scheduled to be at the Seattle mini-camp May 4-7, and has an invitation to try out with the Giants May 11-14.

Just to be invited to a tryout says a lot about the talent and ability of a football player and is quite an honor. To at least have a chance to show what you can do and what you are made of is more than most high school football players will ever get. At least there is a chance.
