The driver involved in a crash near Boulder that left U.S. Bicycling Hall of Famer Dale Stetina with life-threatening injuries must perform 60 hours of community service.

The Daily Camera reported Thursday that 40-year-old Ryan Dowd, of Longmont, also must pay restitution, but the amount has not been set. He previously pleaded guilty to careless driving resulting in injury.

Investigators say Stetina crashed while trying to avoid an SUV that pulled into his lane in Lefthand Canyon on Aug. 31, 2013. He was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition and placed in a medically induced coma in the days after the accident.

Stetina was a member of the 1976 and 1980 U.S. Olympic teams and won more than 200 domestic and international bike races during a career from 1965 to 1983.
