After worrying about what action President Trump and Congress would take that could affect future of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in the US, those affected and their supporters in Denver walked out of class today in protest of the President’s decision.

DACA is the program created by President Obama in 2012 that allows certain illegal immigrants who were brought to the US as children, protection from deportation for renewable periods of two years.

The program is designed to acknowledge the plight of children who are raised primarily in the US by parents who are illegal immigrants but are a low priority for deportation. The vast majority of these children attend or have attended school in the US.

Below is a video of the Denver walkouts today (September 5).

A look at comments on each of these Facebook video posts shows a wide range of reactions about the walkouts from very supportive to vitriolic.

According to CNN, while the President has rescinded the program, Congress still has a chance to save it or find a way to deal with the nearly 800,00 people currently protected from deportation through DACA.

If Congress doesn’t act and DACA expires, it is estimated 300,000 people will lose their protections in 2018 and an additional 320,000 or more would lose protections in 2019.
