Copper Mountain has become the first ski resort in the nation to start making snow for the upcoming ski season. It doesn't feel like winter yet - but it is coming.

With temperatures dropping below 30 degrees last week in the high country, the snow machines were fired up. Copper Mountain is scheduled to open on November 6th with an opening day pep rally featuring Olympians Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin.

According to Sno Country, the  U.S. Ski Team will train at the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper and snowmaking will continue as conditions permit.

Loveland Ski Area is closely monitoring weather conditions and is set to begin snowmaking any day now, just as soon as conditions permit. Arapahoe Basin is also in the mix for first-to-open bragging rights. Meanwhile, Powderhorn has set December 17 as its target date for opening.
