The defending national champs help kick off the first full weekend of college football action.

Top-ranked Florida State and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston are in action against Oklahoma State in Arlington, Texas. Besides Winston, the Seminoles return 14 other starters from last season's title team. Oklahoma State is unranked but returns 10 starters from last year's team that was in the championship conversation before two late-season losses.

Second-ranked Alabama also opens the season at a neutral site, taking on West Virginia in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide enter the season with their starting quarterback situation undecided. Jake Coker and Blake Sims have been running neck-and-neck to be the replacement to the departed AJ McCarron.

Heisman Trophy hopeful Marcus Mariota (mehr-ee-OH'-tah) leads the high-velocity Oregon offense heading into the Ducks' season opener against South Dakota. He threw for 3,665 yards and 31 touchdowns with only four interceptions last season when the Ducks went 11-2. Oregon heads into the season ranked No. 3.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma has a date with Louisiana Tech to open the season. Quarterback Trevor Knight will be at the controls again for the Sooners, who ended last season with a win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Fifth-ranked Ohio State goes with redshirt freshman J.T. Barnett for its opener against Navy. He hasn't played in a game since sustaining a season-ending leg injury early in his senior year in high school. Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds begins his third season. He set an NCAA record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback last season with 31.

There are 17 games involving 19 ranked teams on the schedule.
