The Colorado Mesa Mavericks play their final road game of the regular season this weekend when they take on Colorado School of Mines. The Mavericks are 5-3 on the year, 4-2 in conference play after having their three-game winning streak snapped last weekend by Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks score 20 points off of Maverick turnovers enroute to the homecoming upset.

The Mavericks have taken care of the football for the most part this season, and that trend will need to continue this Saturday (11am) when they take on nationally ranked Colorado Mines. The Orediggers are 7-1 overall, and 5-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming last weekend to CSU Pueblo. The Mavericks are 9th in the nation in turnovers gained, turning 22 turnovers into 103 points. Forcing some turnovers against Mines may be the key to victory.

CMU freshman quarterback Andrew Cota, after leading his team to three straight wins, struggled last week, tossing three interceptions, though Coach Russ Martin acknowledge in some instances it was a case of wrong route running by receivers.

Mines is a team that runs a balanced offense that will be a challenge for a CMU defense that struggled to get off the field in the 4th quarter of last week's game, when they needed to make a stop and get the ball back to the offense one more time.

Still, this is a game that is winnable for the Mavericks. They don't need to play a perfect game, but they need a good game free of turnovers. If they can do that, they will be in this ball game with a chance to win. It could come down to which team is able to execute in the fourth quarter.

Kickoff is 11am from the North Area Athletic Complex in Arvada. Live coverage begins at 10:30 am on ESPN Radio 1230.
