The Colorado Mesa Mavericks return home this weekend to face western Colorado rival Western State Colorado University in RMAC basketball action.

Both CMU teams split their games on the road last weekend. The women beat CSU Pueblo 49-45, and then fell to UCCS 72-56. The men lost to CSU Pueblo 80-67, and then upended 2nd ranked and previously unbeaten UCCS 100-92.

With lots of basketball yet to be played, the Maverick men, 7-3,  find themselves in 5th place in the RMAC, 2 1/2 games behind first place and unbeaten Colorado Mines.(9-0) The Mountaineers are near the bottom of the conference standings at 2-8 The Mountaineers have lost two in a row with last weekend's double-digit losses to CSU Pueblo and UCCS. They have conference wins over Western New Mexico and Colorado Christian, but have not one a game on the road this season. The Mavericks are 5-1 this season at Brownson Arena, and have won 15 of their last 19 home games.

The CMU women were knocked out of first place last weekend when they were knocked off by UCCS. The Mavs sit a half game out of first place, with UCCS now having the upper hand in the battle for the #1 seed in the RMAC shootout.

The Western State Mountaineer women are 3-7 in conference play, and like the men, are winless on the road. They are led by senior Jade McIntosh, averaging 14 points per game.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have won 44 straight at Brownson Arena. Head Coach Taylor Wagner has not lost a home game in his 2 1/2 seasons at Colorado Mesa.
