We do get a holiday early in September, but here are some other special days during the month you may want to celebrate, and a couple of them involve bacon.

The folks at holidayinsights.com have made a complete list of days celebrated in September and here are some of the highlights.

    International Bacon Day

    September 3

A day to celebrate bacon is always a good day, and this one always happens on the Saturday before Labor Day. We don't really know how this day came about, but a group of Boulder, Colorado graduates say they created this particular day in 2004. How it started doesn't really matter.

The most important thing is that we should celebrate the wonderful goodness of bacon.

    National Pet Memorial Day

    September 11

Obviously, September 11 is a special day for all Americans, but this year it is extra special because it happens to also be National Pet Memorial Day, which is always the second Sunday in September. For those of us that have had to say goodbye to a beloved pet in the last year, it's a good time to reflect and remember all the good times and the joy we have shared with our gone but not forgotten four-legged friend.

We should never forget our critters.

    Positive Thinking Day

    September 13

In a world of negativity and pessimism, what we need more of is more positive thinking. Let today be the first day of a new chapter in your life to be a more positive person in your attitude about yourself and in your interaction with others. I think you will find yourself to be a happier person as will the people around you.

    National Cheeseburger Day

    September 18

If you ask me, the cheeseburger should be the official staple food of the United States. Sure, I love tacos and pizza and spaghetti and sugar cookies, but there is nothing like a thick, juicy cheeseburger with ketchup and mustard on a buttered, toasted bun and maybe a couple of slices of chewy bacon.

Today we salute every cow who has ever sacrificed its meat for our pleasure and enjoyment.

    National Butterscotch Pudding Day

    September 19

Believe it or not, there are more flavors in the world than just chocolate and vanilla, which of course are yummy, but one of the best alternatives is definitely butterscotch. When it comes to butterscotch, it's one of those things that people either love it or hate it. If you are worried about sugar and calories, try the sugar-free fat-free variety. It's really good!

    National Good Neighbor Day

    September 28

Mr. Rogers would be happy to know we are carrying the torch to be a good neighbor. We need more good neighbors in the world, and, honestly, a lot of us could stand to become better neighbors -- kinder, gentler, and quieter.  The good neighbor movement has been alive and well since the 1970s when Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter all issued good neighbor proclamations.
